Info for Renting a Dumpster in San Jose

San Jose is an open market for temporary dumpster rental.

San Jose is traditionally an open market for waste haulers offering temporary refuse and debris boxes, also known as roll-off dumpsters. That means privately owned companies are allowed to compete for the business of San Jose residents.

Since July of 2012, businesses in the city of San Jose placing a permanent commercial dumpster are required to use the city's franchised hauler, Republic Waste Services.

75% of construction and demolition debris must be recycled.

San Jose's Construction & Demolition Diversion Program (CDD) has set a goal of diverting a minimum of 75% of construction and demolition debris from landfills.

If you are renting a temporary dumpster in San Jose for construction or demolition debris, the waste removal for your project must comply with CDD in order to receive an occupancy certificate.

To comply, you need to:

  1. Rent the dumpster from an authorized construction and demolition hauler.
  2. The dumpster service must haul the debris to a certified waste diversion facility.

How much does it cost to rent a dumpster?

Usually a phone call is required to the hauler to get an exact price because the type of debris and the city you live in can change the price significantly.  Some waste removal companies listed on Hometown Dumpster Rental do publish their prices.  If so, you can find the link to their prices on their company profile.

Dumpster rental pricing can actually be a bit complicated if you've never rented one before.  One feature of temporary dumpster prices that surprises first time renters... you can actually end up paying more than you thought, depending on the weight of your dumpster.  Check out our beginner's guide to dumpster rental prices for more info.

We've also done a number of nationwide pricing surveys and comparisons that can help you understand costs in your area.
