How Bloomington handles bulky wastes and litter cleanup

How to dispose of bulky wastes and e-waste in Bloomington:

The city’s sanitation department will pick up appliances, furniture, mattresses, chairs, and other bulky items as part of its weekly trash collection.

You must place a $2 trash sticker on each item, and you have to phone ahead to have appliances hauled away (no call necessary for furniture or other bulky wastes).

Electronics can be properly recycled by dropping them off at the South Walnut Recycling Center at 3400 S. Walnut St. or at all Rural Recycling Centers. Call 349-2848 for more information.

The type of e-waste that is accepted includes, but is not limited to:

  • Computers
  • Cellphones
  • Small appliances (e.g., microwaves)
  • Radios
  • More

“Pick it Up!” litter control program lets residents clean up their neighborhoods.

Bloomington’s Pick it Up litter campaign allows anyone – from individuals to businesses – to get access to free blue trash bags to use for cleaning up litter in the neighborhood.

The blue Pick it Up bags can be placed with the regular weekly trash collection and doesn’t require a $2 sticker.

You must register to participate in this program.

Note: Pick it Up! is not intended for general household trash, yard waste, or bulky items.

How much does it cost to rent a dumpster?

Usually a phone call is required to the hauler to get an exact price because the type of debris and the city you live in can change the price significantly.  Some waste removal companies listed on Hometown Dumpster Rental do publish their prices.  If so, you can find the link to their prices on their company profile.

Dumpster rental pricing can actually be a bit complicated if you've never rented one before.  One feature of temporary dumpster prices that surprises first time renters... you can actually end up paying more than you thought, depending on the weight of your dumpster.  Check out our beginner's guide to dumpster rental prices for more info.

We've also done a number of nationwide pricing surveys and comparisons that can help you understand costs in your area.
