Dumpster Companies Must Be Licensed in the City of Austin

The city of Austin doesn’t promote any particular waste hauling company, but…

The private waste hauler must be licensed by the city.

If you were to use an unlicensed company to haul away junk or debris and this unlicensed company were to illegaly dump the debris, you could face fines of up to $2,000.

Look for the City of Austin license decal (as shown below) on the front doors of the waste hauler’s truck to be sure the company is legally authorized to operate within city limits.

Commercial dumpster service is an open market.

Commercial customers are free to choose a private commercial waste hauler to handle commercial dumpster service.

However, the Austin Resource Recovery Dept. is contracted to handle commercial trash and recycling within the Downtown Austin Service District.

Austin’s Zero Waste Plan aims to reduce 90% of landfill waste by 2040

Much of the debris from construction dumpsters gets recycled, including construction and demolition materials.

About 87% of Austin residents recycle in some way, making the city one of the most sustainable in the country.

How much does it cost to rent a dumpster?

Usually a phone call is required to the hauler to get an exact price because the type of debris and the city you live in can change the price significantly.  Some waste removal companies listed on Hometown Dumpster Rental do publish their prices.  If so, you can find the link to their prices on their company profile.

Dumpster rental pricing can actually be a bit complicated if you've never rented one before.  One feature of temporary dumpster prices that surprises first time renters... you can actually end up paying more than you thought, depending on the weight of your dumpster.  Check out our beginner's guide to dumpster rental prices for more info.

We've also done a number of nationwide pricing surveys and comparisons that can help you understand costs in your area.
