As silly as it sounds, the idea of trash furniture -- a chair stuffed with garbage -- is an idea already dreamed up by an enterprising young man named Nick DeMarco. DeMarco was a student at the California College of the Arts when he invented the XS Chair, a clear vinyl chair you fill with trash, old clothes or whatever type of stuffing you want. I guess that’s one way to get rid of garbage.
DeMarco’s trash filled chair was exhibited at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York City a few years back. The XS Chair was actually picked up for production! While the prototype chair was made from vinyl, the production chair is constructed of industrial plastic netting. The chair can be filled with virtually anything you think of – magazines, winter clothes/summer clothes (depending upon the season), toy balls (like the kind found at McDonald’s Play Places), grass clippings/leaves, etc… What would you throw in it? If this isn’t the perfect gift for any college student out there, I don’t know what is!
If the junk-filled XS Chair is your style, you might also like the Gatherer Jacket made by outdoor clothing maker Merrel. You can stuff this thing with leaves or other debris to help keep you warm in wilderness.
…Or if you’re into sports, have some outdoor fun with this soccer ball designed to be filled with trash.
