10 Yard Dumpster Tips for Martell, NE
How does the weight of construction debris compare to household junk?
Household junk/general trash is generally lighter than construction and demolition (C&D) debris, with the exception of all-wood loads.
- 1 cubic yard of household trash/junk weighs an average of about 800 pounds.
- 1 cubic yard of loose concrete or asphalt weighs about 2,400 pounds.
As you can see, the same volume of C&D debris weighs three times more than household trash. This is important to keep in mind when renting a dumpster. Going over the rental company’s weight allowance can lead to overage charges ranging from $50 to $100 per ton.
What are the dimensions of a 10 yard dumpster?
It varies by company. A typical 10 yard roll-off measures approximately 12 ft L x 8 ft W x 4 ft H. However, some rental companies offer “lowboys” that measure approximately 20 feet long and have much lower sides at 2 to 3 feet, making it ideal for side loading heavy debris (e.g. concrete). Be sure to figure in the space needed to swing open the back door on the dumpster (if equipped) when clearing a spot on your property for the dumpster to be placed. These doors may need as much as 8 ft of clearance to open all the way – discuss these clearance issues with your dumpster rental provider.
