Household junk/general trash is generally lighter than construction and demolition (C&D) debris, with the exception of all-wood loads.
- 1 cubic yard of household trash/junk weighs an average of about 800 pounds.
- 1 cubic yard of loose concrete or asphalt weighs about 2,400 pounds.
As you can see, the same volume of C&D debris weighs three times more than household trash. This is important to keep in mind when renting a dumpster. Going over the rental company’s weight allowance can lead to overage charges ranging from $50 to $100 per ton.
What are the dimensions of a 10 yard dumpster?
It varies by company. A typical 10 yard roll-off measures approximately 12 ft L x 8 ft W x 4 ft H. However, some rental companies offer “lowboys” that measure approximately 20 feet long and have much lower sides at 2 to 3 feet, making it ideal for side loading heavy debris (e.g. concrete).
