As with any purchase, informed shoppers get the best deal. That’s certainly the case when it comes to dumpster rentals. So, here are a few tips that help you become a more informed customer when shopping for the best deal on dumpster rentals:
- Call at least two roll-off container rental companies for quotes. This ensures you’re getting the best deal. You can even barter for a better deal by using one quote as leverage against the other.
- Avoid overage charges by keeping heavy debris at a minimum (e.g., dirt, concrete, brick, etc.). Likewise, avoid late fees by calling and having the dumpster rental provider pick up the container at the agreed upon date.
- When on the fence about which bin size to choose, go with the larger one. The difference in price is minimal compared to the potential of being hit with overage fees later on.
Ask about recycling options. It’s often cheaper for the dumpster company to recycle a load rather than dump it at the landfill. They may pass these savings on to you.
How long can I rent a dumpster?
A 7-day rental period is pretty standard, although this can vary by dumpster rental company. You can also estimate the amount of debris yourself by physically measuring it and converting it to cubic yards. 1 cubic yard is equal to a 3 ft x 3 ft x 3 ft item or pile of debris. Due to the varying container dimensions, bulky or irregularly shaped items may consume quite a bit of volume in the container. It’s best you discuss this with your dumpster rental provider.
