Where is waste hauled off to in Rhode Island?

The State of Rhode Island maintains a list of active licensed landfills that handle all types of waste generated in the state.

Certain wastes must be separated out of the general waste stream, including construction/demolition debris, medical waste, yard waste, and hazardous wastes. There are area landfills that specialize in the processing of these special wastes.

You’ll need a dumpster permit when placing it in the public right-of-way.

In the case where you need to place a bulk dumpster in the public right-of-way (i.e. side of a city street), you’ll need to obtain a dumpster permit.

The fees for these permits are up to $75 per week for 30-yarders. Smaller dumpsters cost $25 to $50 per month, depending on its size.

NOTE: The dumpster must have reflective tape for visibility at night, and the doors of the dumpster cannot hinder traffic in any way.

***Your dumpster rental company will most likely handle permitting requirements, but always ask when ordering your dumpster.

Contact the Traffic Engineering Department at (401) 781-4045 for more information about dumpster permits.

How much does it cost to rent a dumpster?

Usually a phone call is required to the hauler to get an exact price because the type of debris and the city you live in can change the price significantly.  Some waste removal companies listed on Hometown Dumpster Rental do publish their prices.  If so, you can find the link to their prices on their company profile.

Dumpster rental pricing can actually be a bit complicated if you've never rented one before.  One feature of temporary dumpster prices that surprises first time renters... you can actually end up paying more than you thought, depending on the weight of your dumpster.  Check out our beginner's guide to dumpster rental prices for more info.

We've also done a number of nationwide pricing surveys and comparisons that can help you understand costs in your area.
