What happens when you overfill a dumpster?

By law, a dumpster company cannot haul the bin with waste, junk, or debris exceeding the top of the container.

They also need to tarp down the load properly and may need to remove some debris from the top.

If you fill your roll-off dumpster above its fill line (there’s generally a separate line for construction debris and for household junk/waste), the dumpster company reserves the right to remove any or all of the load.

In some cases, the customer is responsible for unloading the debris until the load is below the fill line and/or complies with the rental company’s policy.

How long can I keep the dumpster?

The dumpster provider’s terms will detail the rental duration. In most cases, a 7-day or 10-day rental period is typical.

You can often extend or shorten these terms upon request. Usually, there is a daily fee for extending the rental period.

To have the container picked up early, give your rental provider a call and request an early pickup.

They may or may not have a driver available to pick it up the same day, so it’s best to plan ahead and schedule this.
