What is a dumpster weight allowance?
Each roll-off dumpster includes a certain amount of weight in the price. The amount of included weight can range from 0 lbs to several tons. Some companies have a very low delivery price, but include 0 lbs of weight. That means you still need to pay for all the weight after the dumpster is weighed, typically at the landfill. Other dumpster companies may include 1 ton (2,000 lbs) to 8 tons (16,000 lbs) or more. The bigger the dumpster, generally the greater the weight allowance. Additional costs occur when your load goes over the allotted weight. Overage costs typically range between $35 per ton and $100 per ton. Weight fees are generally determined by the cost to dump at the landfill or recycling center. The dumpster service simply passes the cost on to the customer. Household junk is much lighter compared to the same volume of dirt, bricks or concrete debris. Be wary of overage charges when dealing with heavier debris.
