Do I need a permit to rent a roll-off dumpster?
In most cases, you don’t need a permit for dumpster rentals in Memphis.
However, some circumstances may require a permit:
- If you need to place the dumpster on a city street, a right of way permit may have to be secured in order to abide by the Memphis City Codes.
- A permit is also necessary if the dumpster is to be placed within the downtown solid waste collection district at a rate of $200 per month (as of 2013).
Ask your Memphis dumpster rental provider if a permit will be necessary in your situation. In most cases, they’ll be more than willing to help you or even take care of the permitting process for you altogether. You can also call 3-1-1 to get more information straight from the Solid Waste Management division of the Memphis Public Works Department.
