Dumpster Rental Tips for Mountain City, TN

Dumpsters for Rent

How can I avoid overage charges?

Debris like dirt, concrete, and household junk can pack on the pounds in your dumpster very quickly.

Dumpster companies generally include a certain amount of weight in each rental and then charge more if the dumpster is overweight.

To avoid going over your weight allowance, here are two tips to minimize the total weight of your trash:

  1. Place a tarp over the dumpster when not in use, especially when it’s raining or snowing. Moisture can dampen debris and make it much heavier. You are responsible for this weight and could end up paying for it in the form of overage fees if you’re not careful.
  2. Reusable junk or debris, such as salvaged brick or still-working appliances, can be donated to local charities (e.g., Habitat for Humanity ReStores) or unloaded for free on Craigslist. This helps reduce the amount of weight in your dumpster.

Make sure you know the weight allowance for the particular dumpster you rented.

Don’t overload the container or you will be susceptible to overage charges.

Is it necessary to obtain a dumpster permit from the city?

Generally, a dumpster permit is required if the container will be placed on the side of a city street or on the sidewalk.

When you have the dumpster placed on your private property, such as your driveway, no permit is required in most municipalities.

To be sure you satisfy all of your city’s permitting requirements, discuss it with your dumpster provider prior to taking delivery of the dumpster.
