A dumpster rental permit, sometimes called a “temporary occupancy permit,” is required in cases where the dumpster is to be placed in the public right-of-way. Here are two tips that can help minimize the weight of a load:
- Tarp the dumpster when not in use, otherwise rainwater can drench the load and add a significant amount of weight. It’s possible you could end up paying overage fees if this puts you over the dumpster’s weight allowance.
- Some junk or debris may be valuable to others, such as salvaged bricks, working appliances, or reclaimed wood. Leave these things out of the dumpster and instead, sell or give them away locally.
Always be aware of the weight allowance on your dumpster, and discuss this in detail with your dumpster provider if you plan to load dense debris, such as concrete or masonry.
