Dumpster Rental Tips for Washington DC, DC
Will I need a permit to rent a dumpster?
You will probably need to secure a permit if the dumpster is to be placed in the public right-of-way, such as a city street or alleyway.
The cost of these dumpster permits is $75 per month.
Check with the dumpster rental companies you speak with to see if they handle permitting requirements for you or if you will need to secure the permit yourself.
What size dumpster should I choose?
This depends on your project. Dumpsters come in many sizes, most commonly 10 yard, 20 yard, 30 yard, and 40 yard containers.
If you have 10 yards of debris, we recommend choosing a dumpster that is one size bigger.
This will eliminate the risk of going over the weight allowance or having to rent another dumpster to finish the job.
Do I need to recycle?
Recyclable materials are required to be source separated in the D.C. Metro area.
This includes paper, cardboard, and yard waste. These items shouldn’t be mixed in with general household trash or in your dumpster.
